Thanks to SpoilerTV, we’ve been able to find out the episode titles for the next few episodes of the series. After this week’s episode “Believe,” we’ll be watching the strangely titled “A561984,” the tenth episode of the season. We’re not quite sure of the meaning behind that one, but it looks like a date, in a way (May 6, 1984?).

The eleventh episode of the season will be titled “Buddha in the Ruins,” and episode twelve will be titled “Kairos.” After a bit of searching (okay, we just Wikipediad the term) we found out that a Kairos was:

Kairos (??????) is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While the former refers to chronological or sequential time, the latter signifies a time in between, a moment of undetermined period of time in which something special happens. What the special something is depends on who is using the word. While chronos is quantitative, kairos has a qualitative nature.

Then we’ll hit episode thirteen, “Better Angels.” While we’re not sure if there’s any connection between the two, Better Angels is also the title of a 1999 science fiction novel by Howard V. Hendrix. What does that title mean? Well, according to Wikipedia:

“Better angels” is a phrase used by agents of organization Tetragrammatron to described what they hope to make humanity into. Tetragrammatron is concerned with ensuring humanity’s survival by creating a machine/human transcendences, turning humans into “better angels”.

These titles are very interesting, and we can’t wait to see how they relate to their episodes.

In this week’s episode, “The Gift,” Agent Al Gough committed suicide in order to prevent his flashforward from coming true. While this event effectively ended his character, it also opened up a variety of possibilities for the other characters who hoped to escape the inevitability of their flashforwards. However, it also opens a myriad of questions — Is death the only escape? How much do these changes affect the future they saw?

Lee Thompson Young, who played Gough, spoke to Zap2It about his thoughts on the character’s death, and what it meant for the future of the show.

“He basically changes the entire world because he’s the first person to defy Fate,” Young said in the interview, which can be read in full here. “He found a way to change the game. It’s an awesome role to play.”

Speaking of the role, Young revealed that he hadn’t known his character’s full arc until after the pilot. “I don’t think the writers had really fleshed everything out at that point,” he said. “But when the show got picked up, David Goyer brought me into the office…he actually asked me if I was okay with it. I was like, yeah, man, I just want to be on the show.”

While there was some disappointment from Young about it, he says he is grateful to have played the role. “I think [Agent Al Gough] is a special character in the “FlashForward” world, so it’s kind of an honor to play that role,” Young said.

Gough’s character is loosely based on the character of Dimitrios Procopides from the novel Flashforward. In the novel Dimitrios, having seen a future in which he was living an unfulfilled life, kills himself in order to be spared from it, proving that the future can be changed and providing hope to his brother Theo, who, like the show’s Demetri Noh, did not have a flashforward, leading him to believe that he was dead in the future (something he was able to change).

Lloyd Simcoe has had a lot to deal with since the blackout of every man, woman, child, and even crow on the planet. His wife was killed during the blackout and he’s had to get to know his estranged son whom also is autistic in the process. From his point of view, the doctor that saved his son’s life now seems to want nothing to do with him or his son’s care, and to top it all off he has an unknown relationship with a man named Simon (Dominic Monaghan) who claims that they (Lloyd and Himself) were responsible for the blackouts.

I’ll be the first to admit that the revelation, this early into the season, that Simon is claiming responsibility for the blackouts shocked me a bit. From the few previews we got of Simon before last week’s episode, I was certainly curious about his involvement, and he did seem to be a bit of a shady character, but they have basically told us, straight-away, that Simon is at least one of the parties bearing responsibility. My opinion…he’s mistaken. In otherwords, Simon is either wrong or not aware of other forces at play here and thinks himself and Lloyd are the reason for the blackout, but in reality someone or something else was pulling their strings for another purpose.

Hear more from Lloyd Simcoe himself (actor Jack Davenport) in the video below.

What’s it all about?
Simplified, Flash Forward focuses on the choas which ensues after everyone on the planet blacks out for two minutes and seventeen seconds. The blackout itself causes mass disaster: airplanes fall from the sky, cars are involved in collisions, etc. In total, 40 million or so people don’t survive the mysterious event.

So, people are unconscious for the entire time?
Not quite. Here’s where it gets interesting: during the blackout, survivors experience a flash forward in time, revealing a snippet of their own future or fate during the time loss. And the moment they witness is not random (as you might have guessed) – it’s five months in the future, at 8pm on April 20, 2010.

Why that specific date?
Good question! And that very question is one of the pilot’s central mysteries – along with what caused the blackout, of course. Was it a natural disaster? A man-made event? Or something much more sinister?

What happens to the survivors?
Naturally, they’re somewhat disturbed by the experience. The FBI and other agencies begin to investigate the visions, attempting to link stories together by similar visions. The plot will then follow and explore the lives of the survivors.

Who came up with the idea for the show?
It’s written by David S. Groyer, the man behind Batman Begins and Blade, and Brannon Braga (Enterprise, Threshold). Flash Forward is also loosely based on Robert J. Sawyer’s 1999 novel of the same name.

Who’s in it?
Sonya Walger, who has a key recurring role on Lost as Penny Widmore, will take the female lead. Christine Woods, Jack Davenport and Law & Order: CI’s Courtney B. Vance have also been given roles.

Why should I watch it?
Billed as the new Lost (have we made that point already?), Flash Forward should fill any sci-fi drama shaped holes you may have in your life. Who wouldn’t be at least a little intrigued by a show tackling fate vs. free will and destiny vs. chaos?

Abrams new Star Trek. You’ll see those talents again next fall when Flash Forward premieres on ABC. Below is an excerpt from an interview done by Moviehole.com with John Cho.

Question: What are you planning to do next, do you know?

Cho: Well, I just completed a pilot for ABC called Flash Forward.

Question: Which is?

Cho: Well, it’s a good script, written by David Goyer, who did Batman Begins, so when I read it, that was a passion moment for me. I just got really excited, even though TV wasn’t really on my mind. But – everyone in the world blacks out for two minutes at the beginning of the show, and there’s an event that causes everyone to black out, and see a vision of their future for two minutes, everyone on the planet. And Joseph Fiennes and I play FBI agents who are trying to piece the whole mess together.

Question: That sounds fascinating.

Cho: It’s fascinating from so many angles, particularly from a domestic point of view, for these characters. That’s what probably excited me the most. It was just – he’s got a real knack for getting into a big idea, via small holes.

Question: Now, has ABC indicated that it’s a possibility that the show will be picked up? When will we know?

Cho: I guess we won’t know ‘til the up-fronts, which are in mid-May, I think.

Question: So, this is going to be for the fall schedule.

Cho: Hopefully, yeah. But I hear there’s a promo airing for our show on the 100th episode of Lost.

Flash Forward has yet to be picked up by ABC, but in an unprecedented move, the network has started airing promotional ads for the show despite this fact. During last night’s 100th episode of Lost, ABC aired the “What Did You See” promo videos which show various quick flashes. One is of some students leaving a school, another of a couple kissing at their wedding, one that shows a coffin being carried through a procession, a surfer riding a wave, and finally what appears to be an ultrasound picture. Whether these are intended to be flashes that the characters in the show see, or just random images meant to drum up discussions is unclear. Hell, for all we know it could be the beginning of a new ARG online game. You can see the commercials in the video below.

[MEDIA not found]

Flash Forward is a new pilot that seems destined to become a series next fall for ABC. It is loosely based on a Robert J. Sawyer novel called Flashes. The series will star Joseph Fiennes and is about a global even that causes everyone on the planet to lose consciousness for two minutes and seventeen seconds. During the blackout they all see a moment exactly 5 months into their future. When the survivors wake up they learn that almost 40 million people around the world died during the blackouts due to planes falling from the sky, cars crashing on the interstates, and various other accidents. The survivors attempt to come to grips with the reality of what happened as they search for the reasons why, and learn whether they can change what happened, or if its all pre-destined.
